HOUSTON, Texas — On Sept. 12,
Catholics for Choice launched a national print advertising campaign featuring ads in 20 publications across the United States. The campaign’s full-page ads feature Catholics who support public funding for abortion.
Bishop Steven J. Lopes of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter reacted to the campaign:
“The biggest falsehood in these advertisements is the statement that ‘as a Catholic’ a person can respect and support a decision to kill an unborn person,” Bishop Lopes said. “The insinuation that Catholic faith can lead a person to sanction something which is always and everywhere a moral evil is fraudulent, deceitful, and simply wrong.”
The bishop reminded all the faithful of the Ordinariate that as servants of the common good, it is imperative that Catholics work to protect the right to life of every human being, born and unborn. The Catholic Church calls each of Her members to oppose abortion, to support women and families whose circumstances may lead them to seek an abortion, and to defend the most vulnerable and defenseless members of the human family through prayer, education, public witness, and advocacy for life.
This October, the Catholic Church throughout the United States will observe Respect Life Month. In August, parishes of the Ordinariate received materials produced by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to assist with integrating the Church’s vision of the human person into their various parish ministries. All members of the Ordinariate are encouraged to recommit themselves to a vision of life that affirms and lifts up the inherent dignity of every human person.
